Our Mission, Vision, and Values Statements

MISSION

North Country Food Alliance is a worker-run non-profit that takes action to strengthen food sovereignty in the Twin Cities Metro Area.

VISION

We envision a Twin Cities Metro where no food is wasted and everyone is empowered by abundant access to healthy, sustainable, and culturally appropriate foods.

VALUES

We acknowledge…

  • that our work is done on the traditional territory of the Dakota, Anishinaabe, and Ho Chunk peoples, who continue to live on and care for this land despite centuries of colonialism and genocide, as well as ongoing marginalization.

  • that racism, classism, gender oppression, ableism, and white supremacy are systematically structured and operative in our society.

  • that systemic racism has created a lack of affordable, healthy food options within BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color) neighborhoods, both in the Twin Cities and around the world.

We believe…

  • that access to healthy food is a human right and that healthy communities are strong communities.

  • that collaboration, cooperation, and mutual aid benefits the majority of the people on the planet, reducing inequality.

  • in workplace democracy and workers' rights to self-determination.

We commit…

  • to collaborating with marginalized communities to provide healthy, culturally appropriate food.

  • to acting in solidarity with the many, while bringing together people of diverse backgrounds, and keeping in mind that the few rich and powerful exploit demographic differences to divide a population that shares common interests.

  • to dismantling systems of oppression, examining how we still participate in them, and adapting our work to be in better alignment with systems of community care.
