Gleaning at Philadelphia Community Farm

  • Philadelphia Community Farm 599 280th Street Osceola, WI, 54020 United States (map)

Info

Gleaning is the act of harvesting fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste at orchards, gardens, and farms. This is high-quality food that would rot in the field if not for outside efforts—possibly due to constraints on time, storage, or budget. North Country Food Alliance is partnering with Philadelphia Community Farm to coordinate volunteers to harvest excess produce on an as-needed basis. NCFA will deliver this food to kitchens and food shelves in the Twin Cities Metro Area. Gleaning workdays also involve some additional farm labor, such as weeding, to help support small-scale agriculture.

This gleaning workday will be focused on harvesting strawberries. We will take a break during the hot part of the day at a local waterfall.

We will continue adding dates to this sign-up, as needed by the farm. Please email Celeste Verhelst (gleaning@ncfa-mn.org) with any questions.

Registration

Sign up by emailing gleaning@ncfa-mn.org. Please remember to sign the volunteer waiver, which you can do in person or electronically.

We can offer rides to a few people! The carpool will meet at Walker Church (3104 16th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55407) at 9am. Please include in your email if you’re looking for a ride.

Thank you so much for your help in harvesting and sharing food!
