INFO

Gleaning is the act of harvesting fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste at orchards, gardens, and farms. This is high-quality food that would rot in the field if not for outside efforts—possibly due to constraints on time, storage, or budget. North Country Food Alliance is partnering with Dream of Wild Health Farm to coordinate volunteers to harvest excess produce on an as-needed basis. NCFA will deliver this food to kitchens and food shelves run by and for Native and Indigenous community members. Gleaning workdays also involve some additional farm labor, such as weeding, to help support small-scale agriculture.

Upon arrival at the farm, all volunteers will sign a waiver of liability for Dream of Wild Health, have their temperature taken, and will receive a food handling and safety orientation. Volunteers are asked to bring their own PPE (facial coverings) and follow all safety protocols related to COVID-19, per the request of the farm.

We will continue adding dates to this sign-up, as needed by the farm. Please email Celeste Verhelst (gleaning@ncfa-mn.org) with any questions.

REGISTRATION

Please sign up for available gleaning shifts here. We are limiting the number of gleaning volunteers to 12 due to COVID-19 safety; however, more farm volunteers are welcome to join in to help with other tasks at the farm. If you sign up friends and family to glean with you, please note that an email address is required for each volunteer.

Please remember to sign NCFA’s volunteer waiver, which is separate from the farm waiver. You can sign it in person or electronically.

Thank you so much for your help in harvesting and sharing food!
